Who’s on the 2016 SEC Hot Seat? Clue: Les Miles is one

So the SEC season is close to arriving around Labor Day weekend, and we can’t wait. No – we can’t, can’t wait. Instead of giving you the team by team analysis  – as we’ve done for the last few years – we’re going to give you a 1-14 on who’s on the SEC hot seat. If you don’t agree, tweet me on @SECblog. Please. All comments helpful and (maybe) retweeted! Anyway, so here we go… Les Miles (LSU) – After last year when an emotional Les Miles avoided the bullet after his team stopped a three-game losing streak by beating Texas A&M in a thunderous night in Death Valley, a lot is expected for this team. If they finish 9-3 like

Was Ole Miss 2013 recruiting class worth the money?

If Ole Miss is found out more guilty than imposing losses of double-digit football scholarships between 2015-18 (inclusive), then let’s be honest: This team has certainly been worth the money. Under Hugh Freeze’s tutelage, which started in 2012 (although 2013 was the first class), Ole Miss brought in one of the greatest recruiting classes ever assembled in Rebs’ history in 2013, including DT Robert Nkemdiche, O-Lineman Laremy Tunsil, WR Laquon Treadwell, and S Tony Conner. 3 out of 4 of those assembled players went in the NFL first round, and Conner’s still in school after suffering injuries. Saw three players not only go to the NFL, but go in the first. Treadwell grabbed the headlines for the right reasons (coming

Roll Tide Out? Top Alabama Player Arrested

Top Alabama left tackle Cam Robinson was arrested on felony weapons charges alongside teammate Laurence “Hootie” Jones” – a safety in the early hours of Tuesday morning, adding another name to what has been a horrible offseason for Nick Saban and his Alabama program. 6-6, 325lb junior Robinson and Jones were charged with possession of a stolen firearm, as well as misdemeanour drug possession and carrying a weapon in the presence of narcotics. The incident happened after an officer approached a car containing Robinson and Jones. There was a smell of marijuana in the car and a handgun was spotted, and after a search of the car and other gun was found, ESPN reported. “We are aware of the situation involving Hootie

Saban tops CBS Top 25 College Football Coaches Poll

This isn’t the most surprising news in the world, but Nick Saban’s just topped the CBS Sports Top 25 College Football Coaches Poll. The Alabama coach beat Ohio State’s Urban Meyer to the No.1 spot, with TCU’s Gary Patterson, Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops and Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio rounding out the Top 5. Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher, LSU’s Les Miles, Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, Stanford’s David Shaw and Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh rounded out the Top 10.   Other SEC coaches include Auburn’s Gus Malzahn (13), Hugh Freeze (Ole Miss) (21), and Bret Bielema (Arkansas) (22). The whole poll is here.

Face it, the SEC won the Super Bowl

Face the fact: The SEC won the Super Bowl. Yeah, we know the SEC lost the Super Bowl, bearing in mind that Auburn QB Cam Newton did his best Jeremy Johnson impression during Super Bowl 50. But the SEC won it. Tennessee’s Peyton Manning took home his second ring, watched on by Ole Miss’ Eli Manning, who looked like the pouting younger brother from a decent-looking SkyBox. Thanksgiving’s gonna be fun in the Manning household, when Peyton gets to go and watch Eli play football. Anyway, there was more SEC winning, too. Texas A&M DE Von Miller showed himself to be the best in the business, picking up the Super Bowl MVP award and a pretty decent check in the

Who will the SEC’s bowl games?

Happy Christmas and Happy New Year! We know that bowl season is in full swing, but we’ll be honest…..none of the bowls matter until SEC teams play in them. Here’s why: When the SEC does well everyone talks about SEC bias, SEC strength, and SEC godliness, and when SEC teams do badly, people are quick to jump down our butts and tell us how bad we are (and we’re honest — we were poor as hell as last year). LSU’s going to kick off the SEC bowl season against Texas Tech, and Alabama – we hope  – will end it in the National Championship Game. Simple. So here are our previews…. THE BIG ONE (College Football Play-Off Semi-Final @ Cotton Bowl,

How Jacob Eason’s decision effects QB recruiting

After much tweeting, worry, overtweeting, photos, rumors, tears and gnashing of teeth, the news is out there: Jacob Eason, the high school quarterback with the very good arm, is staying with original commitment to Georgia and going to Athens in a couple of weeks’ time. If you believe what Georgia fans have to say, Eason is the sort of program-changing quarterback that the Bulldogs need not to lose stupid games to Florida, Auburn and South Carolina and dominate college football from hereon in. So, no pressure, Jacob… Anyway, there was some worries that Eason might decide to go Florida (he visited Gainesville recently, as well as the University of Washington), which would have given the Gators not only a returning Will

Who wins the SEC NOT-Heisman Award?

Congrats to Derrick Henry on winning the 2015 Heisman Award. It was deserved (Note: If the award had been given to Stanford’sChristian McCaffery it would have been deserved too). So now we were thinking about the SEC NOT-Heisman Award, given out to the Top Five SEC Players who have let us down the most this year. And here’s ‘The Power 5’ on our list: Duke Williams (Auburn)  In 2014 he was something special, catching 45 receptions for 730 yards and 5 TDs in a breakout season. The hops he had was frightening. We all expected him to scare the life out of opposition defenses during 2015 en route to being the best wide receiver in the SEC, and maybe the country. However,

Who was the biggest letdown in the SEC?

We know about the SEC’s successes. Alabama’s in the College Football Play-Off, Florida unexpectedly won the SEC East, and Derrick Henry should win the Heisman. But who were the biggest letdowns? We rank each SEC team by how much they let us down this year. Auburn — We stupidly called for them to win the SEC Championship Game, without thinking that Will Muschamp would revamp one of the country’s worst defenses in 2014, and Jeremy Johnson would take over easily from Nick Marshall. None of that happened. Auburn was awful all season long. Georgia – The offense looked AMAZING early on….and then they played Alabama. And then Nick Chubb got injured a week later. And it all fell apart. Mark Richt was
