The SEC loves Stanford and Baylor!! SEC Power Rankings

The SEC loves you, Stanford. Thank you for silencing Autzen. The SEC loves you, Baylor. Thank you for silencing the ‘Collin Klein for Heisman’ chants. Replace this with ‘ Johnny For Heisman’. This week was one of the most meaningful in the SEC …. without a lot of meaningful games in the SEC. Anyway, here are the rankings… 1) Bama 2) Georgia 3) LSU 4) UF 5) TAMU 6) USC 7) MSU 8) Vandy 9) Ole Miss 10) Mizzou 11) Tenn. 12) Arky 13) UK 14) Aub 1) Alabama – Ripped apart Western Carolina (who were 1-9 in the FCS, by the way). Biggest result for the Tide was BOTH Oregon and Baylor losing on Saturday. 2) Georgia – Ripped

Rammer Jammer Slammered: SEC Rankings

Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer, What in the **** happened, Alabama? Tuscaloosa was full of sad faces as Texas A&M knocked off Alabama in the Game Of The Season (sorry, LSU game from last week!). But there were happy faces in Ole Miss (from Vandy fans, because their victory in Oxford ensured that they were bowl eligible for the second straight time – the first time this has happened in program history), Auburn (because Alabama lost, and from visiting Georgia fans because they won handily at Jordan-Hare), and other places in the SEC (because Alabama lost). The only people super-furious, we should think, were Mike Slive and the SEC, because a) The SEC Championship Game is not going to be the

Dawgs bark, Tide rolls, Gators chomped, Everyone prays: SEC Rankings (Week 9)

It was a horrible week in the SEC. After Ole Miss tries to recover from the car crash that killed THREE of its students in a car crash, news comes out this weekend that brother and sister both die in a car crash. RIP, Sarah and James Wheat. Prayers are with the Wheat family. Second, Marcus Lattimore gets a horror show of an injury in South Carolina’s game against Tennessee. You mean, the kid needs MORE HARDSHIP, God? The injury is gruesome. If you really want to see, it, click here (for the record, we haven’t even watched it again). From a football perspective, this deprives South Carolina of a much-needed weapon. From a human perspective, this may well deprive the

At last, the Tigers Roar (and so do the Tide and Gators!): Week 7 Rankings

Right, it’s been a mad week in College Football – so much so that we’re going to rank our Top 14 straight away. Without further ado, here’s where we are: 1) Alabama – Rolled to a 28-point lead over Missouri until the rains came. Then looked really scrappy, but the Tide dealt with the tests. And news just in: Eddie Lacy’s a beast. And so is that defensive line. 2) Florida – It wasn’t pretty against Vanderbilt, but it was effective. Jeff Driskell’s beginning to (whisper) remind people of (whisper) Tim Tebow. Oh, and that defense is as good as we thought they were. We’ll see how good the offensive line is against South Carolina. That game’s going to be

SEC! SEC! SEC! Week 5 Predictions

Now that Arkansas has dived so downwards, there is no argument about what is the biggest game in the SEC this week: Tennessee’s trip to Georgia. The last time people were this psyched up for a Tennessee game was a couple of weeks ago. The fans were wearing orange. They weren’t too happy about the Florida result (but then again, they haven’t been happy about that for years!!). But Mark Richt’s appealing to Sanford to ‘be loud’ and wear red. Without being rude, Mark, but isn’t that what Georgia fans tend to wear for games anyway? Our sympathies of the week go to the Georgia student who bought more black bodypaint that red bodypaint for this game. Anyway, we’ve just

LSU starter Jones named ineligible for rest of football season

LSU linebacker Tahj Jones is one of four Tigers players who have been declared academically ineligible for the rest of the 2012 season, according to the Times Picayune, citing sources. Jones, who started one game last season but had 27 tackles with the team was named alongside tight end Tyler Edwards, linebacker D.J. Welter, and offensive linesman Evan Washington. BOTTOM LINE: This might not hit LSU in its starters, but won’t help Les Miles’ depth chart during the course of a brutal SEC schedule.

Quick SEC reaction: Week 2

Wow. What a Week 2 for the SEC. And it was somewhat humbling, let me tell you (although not as humbling as the Big 10, who saw Wisconsin, Nebraska, Penn State, Purdue, Iowa and Illinois all lose, stalwarts Michigan and Ohio State tested) – especially in Fayetteville. Anyway, this blog went an honest-to-God 9-2 yesterday, with our only bad predictions with Arkansas and Vanderbilt. Anyway, here’s some quick grades before a longer piece tomorrow, when we’re feeling more, ahem, ‘together’. 1) We completely underestimated Louisiana-Monroe. We thought they’d come to town, take their near-$1m, and walk off or walk over. Instead, they battled Arkansas when they were 28-7 down in the third quarter, and came back to win in stunning

So now Tyrann Mathieu CAN’T play for LSU again…

Tyrann Mathieu won’t ever be playing for the LSU Tigers again, according to school compliance director Bo Bahnsen. He said: “He’s permanently ineligible to play football at LSU. That’s definite. That’s what was said Friday.” Also Les Miles seemed in slightly more forgiving mode in a press conference on Tuesday, when he said: “I certainly am rooting for Ty and whatever his future is, but I’m not focused on him. I’ve got games to play.” He added: “I’ve got 104 guys that I have to be ready for. I know this is a very key time in (Mathieu’s) life, and I hope the decisions he makes are in his best interest for the long term. We’ll help any way we can.” He

Tyrann Mathieu: What happens now?

Tyrann Mathieu was a gamechanger for the LSU Tigers. Ask Oregon. Ask Kentucky. Ask Arkansas. Ask West Virginia. Ask Georgia. And ask any team who purposefully threw away, kicked away, and punted away from LSU’s No. 7 in 2011, just to make sure that they didn’t get punished. Well, they aren’t going to have that problem in 2011, because Tyrann Mathieu managed to get himself thrown off LSU’s football team – at least for the 2012 season and possibly longer. And the sad news was that it was for testing positive for drugs – the same things that had dropped him into Les Miles’ bad books in 2011 for a couple of games. Now, Mathieu wants to ‘sit out’ the

SEC Media Days: Les Miles’ best quotes

LSU coach Les Miles was his usual quotable self at his SEC Media Conference his Hoover, Alabama. Here are a list of some of the more juicy things he said in what was an unusually straight press conference. About the Alabama National Championship Game Loss: “‘I’ve seen [the game] a couple times. There weren’t that many plays for us on offense for me to spend that much time [on]. On his EA commercial: “I really thought that Mike the Tiger stole the show. We didn’t get along on the set. He was kind of working the camera. It was really a difficult time”. On Tyrann Mathieu and (yet another) Twitter outburst on July 13th: “I didn’t get the Twitter rant exactly.
