Auburn boots WR Kyle Davis

Auburn has dismissed WR Kyle Davis from the team for breaking team rules, head coach Gus Malzahn has revealed. “Anytime as a head coach a player has to be dismissed, that hurts,” Malzahn told the press today. “We’ve got a lot of great kids. Anytime that happens, it’s just another opportunity for someone else. So that’s the way I look at it.” It wasn’t Auburn’s first dismissal of the year. Backup QB Sean White was booted for public intoxication. In another blow for the Tigers – former five-star DE Byron Cowart also left the program due to a lack of playing time and issues with his mother’s health. Davis hadn’t had the most productive years, receiving just 7 passes for

Brantley out: Huge blow for Missouri?

With a lot of notable Missouri luminaries gone to play NFL ball, we all thought it was going to be DT Harold Brantley‘s year after the car accident in 2015 cost him the season – and nearly his life. In his first two years he had 84 tackles, 12 for a loss, a forced fumble and five sacks. But Harold Brantley couldn’t meet the academic standards of Missouri, and he was booted. Now, if you’re a Missouri fan – or any fan in the SEC – you’d be really pissed about news that a player couldn’t pass exams or didn’t do the right work to get him through school. Here’s why: With their tutoring systems and the huge amounts of efforts

How will Jovon Robinson’s dismissal affect Auburn?

There was a Robinson in the State of Alabama who raised some eyebrows this week – and it wasn’t Cam ‘Guns ‘N’ Weed But I Sweat College Football’ Robinson, it was Jovon Robinson of Auburn. The running back – who could have been atop the starting roster at the position – was dismissed yesterday. Although ESPN tweeted that it he was thrown out for missing team meetings and classes, Robinson has insisted that it was because Gus Malzahn “stereotyped and disrespected” him (he didn’t expand on details). But whatever happened, Auburn’s already not-that-rich offense loses a guy who ran for 639 yards and 3 TDs, and that’ll be missed, particularly if the passing game – and Auburn’s still trying to work out who that

Booted LSU DT says: “I’ll be back”

LSU’s dismissal of redshirt freshman defensive tackle Trey Lealaimatafao on Monday night showed that Les Miles actually has some stones. After his arrest for hitting a woman after she attempted to stop him battering her boyfriend, Miles immediately suspended the player – who had caused him disciplinary issues last year as well – and then dismissed him on Monday night. Of course, there are worries about LSU’s depth, according to Bleacher Report. Lealaimatafao would have either seen time on the field or started for the Tigers, and now he’s gone, there are holes. But there we go. LSU will be OK. Lealaimatafao’s next home may well be jail….unless his claims that it was racism that brought him into the bar fight in the

No Third Chances: Alabama dismisses Jonathan Taylor

Jonathan Taylor, the former Georgia DT booted from Athens after domestic violence charges who then enrolled at Alabama, has been booted by the Crimson Tide after being arrested for domestic violence charges. According to ESPN: “Police officers responded to a call near Alabama’s campus to speak with a woman who told police she was assaulted by her boyfriend at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday. After speaking to the woman about an altercation that took place at her residence, officers located the suspect at the residence and spoke to him about the incident. Officers found probable cause to arrest the suspect. The 24-year-old woman had minor injuries to her neck from the assault, according to the police report. The officer also noted

Georgia dismisses yet another player

If there was a college football play-off for teams that throw players off the team, Georgia and Texas would be your undisputed No.1 teams. Georgia probably took the lead a bit (partnered with Texas letting a player back on the team) when Freshman DB Shaq Jones was booted after being arrested for misdemeanour theft by shoplifting. Richt said in a statement: “We have certain expectations and standards that we require of all our players. When those expectations and standards are not met, the opportunity to be a part of our program is sacrificed.” To start the week, Georgia had seen Sheldon Dawson leave the team. It is not known how Dawson left the team. Jones had originally committed to Lousiville before

Right Richt: Jonathan Taylor booted by Georgia

You know what? We’re not actually being sarcastic when we say “Right Richt”, because any guy who strangles or strikes his girlfriend or any female (as it seems sophomore D-Lineman Jonathan Taylor did in the late hours of Monday night) should be booted from a football team and if we’re honest, should not be allowed to transfer, unless it’s to jail. Well, after this second run-in with the law in one off-season, the 6-4, 340lb  Taylor was dismissed by the Georgia Bulldogs today. He was released from jail at 11.45am and was packing up his stuff by 1.30pm today. Mark Richt obviously wasn’t screwing around. The news release detailing his booting came at around 3pm, according to reports. There isn’t

Georgia D-Lineman arrested: Dismissal pending?

Georgia starting defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor has been arrested on a felony charge of aggravated assault. Taylor – who was part of the group who arrested and charged with ‘theft by deception’ for depositing his stipends twice – was jailed early this morning after allegedly strangling a woman in his college dorm room. According to the Athens Banner-Herald, “There was evidence that the female victim had been “possibly strangled by the offender,” in the incident in Taylor’s dorm room….There was evidence that the victim and another individual had been involved in an argument in McWhorter Hall, police said. Officers determined an established relationship and “co-habitation” with Taylor and the victim…” “There were visible signs of injuries around her neck”, police

2014 SEC PREVIEW: Can Missouri shock the SEC East AGAIN?

As we’re in the swing of doing our SEC previews, we thought that as the SEC Conference 2013 winners were first up on The SEC Football Blog SEC Preview, then the 2013 SEC Conference runners-up (aka ‘Winners of the SEC East) should be second on the list. Then we can go with 2013’s also-rans.  So we start with Missouri. I can’t wait to see Maty Mauk. I was really, really excited to see Maty Mauk link up with Dorial Green-Beckham, until Gary Pinkel booted him out of Columbia. But I’m still excited to see Maty Mauk. Oh, and there was some stuff about a guy called Michael Sam, too.  LAST SEASON Missouri shocked the WORLD in 2013 when they won

UGA dismisses another safety

You can’t make this up – Georgia has dismissed another secondary player. This time, it’s rising sophomore Tray Matthews. With Josh Harvey-Clemons and Shaq Wiggins off the team, the Bulldogs’ secondary was already looking a little thin, and then Mark Richt hit the Bulldog Nation with this bomb. “We are trying to make room for guys who want to do things right“, Richt said. Matthews refused to mention why he’d been dismissed, saying that he “couldn’t talk about it right now”. He also tweeted that he could end up playing for Auburn or Louisville. Matthews had been arrested for three counts of theft in the off-season, in a charge relating to double-dipping on scholarship checks, Macon.com has reported. Matthews, who
