Week 11 Review: Bad week for Kentucky, another one for Texas A&M

The news that Texas A&M had a shitty weekend is hardly surprising. Jimbo Fisher’s side is on one of the worst slide’s in his career, and certainly in the Aggies’ small SEC history. It’s so bad that you wouldn’t shocked if there’s the sort of field invasion that there was in 2021 when the Aggies turned over Alabama…even though the competition is UMass. This week it was a fired-up Auburn, who filled Jordan-Hare in the best atmosphere of the week despite having one of the worst SEC records of the lot. But the big surprise to us was the shocking performance produced by Kentucky, who lost at home to Vanderbilt. I thought Kentucky was meant to be ranked and have

Week 11 Preview: Can Arkansas nuke LSU’s SEC West plans?

OK. So there’s going to be a fun game in Oxford at 2.30pm God’s time when Alabama goes to Ole Miss to play. There’s the Nick Saban v Lane Kiffin experience (both united over their hatred of Jimbo Fisher), and there’s the old lines getting trotted out about Alabama being on their knees. But in our view, the biggest game of the week isn’t that. It’s LSU’s trip to Arkansas in a game that could be a Hangover Saturday for the Tigers. However bad Arkansas was in the game against Liberty, they could have tied in the final seconds. And with KJ Jefferson, watch out. Elsewhere, Georgia goes to Mississippi State, Missouri’s ‘great-defense-but-no-offense’ travels to ‘All-Offense-Poor-Defense’ Tennessee, South Carolina goes

Week 9 Preview: Could Ole Miss put Jimbo in semi-serious trouble?

It’s a quiet schedule this week, with just five SEC games this week. One game – that was usually one of the brightest parts of the SEC calendar but has recently lost its luster – is Georgia v Florida/The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party – is now expected to be an ass-kicking. There’s only one ranked match-up (No.19 Kentucky at No.3 Tennessee), while No.15 Ole Miss’ trip to Texas A&M might well be one of the most interesting games on the schedule. The reason why? A loss to Ole Miss puts Texas A&M at a truly terrible 3-5 – which is not something that college football thought would happen in 2022. Honestly, most of us expected them to fight for

Week 7 preview: Can Tennessee upset Alabama?

Ladies and gentlemen, Saturday’s gonna be a war. Alabama going to visit an off-the-hook Neyland Stadium to face the mountain folk of Tennessee. No, we don’t know if Bryce Young’s playing, but we do know that Josh Heupel’s team is playing very, very well and this is going to be a fun game. Oh, and then there’s the usual madness of a LSU-Florida game with both sides continually failing to get out of their own way, a ranked match-up between Mississippi State and Kentucky, a fascinating non-conference match-up as Arkansas walk into Mormon Central to play BYU, as well as the continuing soap opera at Auburn with the Tigers go to Ole Miss to play what many feel is an

SEC Week 6: Tennessee continues to drop jaws, Arkansas just drops

South Carolina scored the most stunning win of the SEC calendar in Week 6 when they beat Kentucky on their own turf. Also, Texas A&M was a dumbass decision away from upsetting Alabama for the second year in a row on its own turf in a game plagued by turnovers, while Georgia happily destroyed Auburn. Otherwise, Tennessee went to Death Valley and destroyed LSU 40-13, Mississippi State took advantage of a porous Arkansas secondary (to put it mildly), Florida beat Missouri and Ole Miss did what was expected of them by beating Vanderbilt with a strong second half performance. Anyway, here are our Week 6 rankings… Tennessee (5-0): We all thought this would be a tight game in Death Valley.

Week 6 Preview: The big game’s in Death Valley, actually

I got in an argument after I posting a quick 1-14 SEC ranking on my Twitter page in which I ranked Georgia as third, with Tennessee on top and Alabama as second. Anyway, Week 5 is finished now. Sorry to have not done my ratings, but in between looking after a toddler and having one of the worst laptop chargers in Christendom, Week 6 has caught up with me way too quickly. Anyway: Week 6 is going to be fun, isn’t it? CBS thought they had hit the jackpot by scheduling their only night game between Alabama and Texas A&M before the season. And then Texas A&M became really, really poor, and Alabama’s a 24 point favourite, and if Saban’s

Week 4 SEC rankings: Tennessee’s our No.1

This season, I have been consistently hit by the fact that Tennessee should be ranked as the No.1 team in the SEC, and maybe the No.2 team in the country. It’s not because of the Josh Heupel offense or because I’ve automatically decided that orange is my favorite colour – it’s because Tennessee has beaten two ranked sides, and Alabama and Georgia has only beaten one. There is no ‘common opponent’ between Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. There will be when the Vols play both teams, but right now, the Vols have had the harder of all three schedules. Each have played SEC teams. Georgia and Alabama destroyed South Carolina and Vanderbilt respectively, but Tennessee beat a better opponent in Florida.

Week 4 Preview: Dumpster fire alert

This week is Dumpster Fire alert. Note: This doesn’t apply to every team. But Missouri’s trip to Auburn is a dumpster fire of all three facets of the game, Florida v Tennessee will feature the potential dumpster fire of two bad defenses and a kid who was after Week 1 a Heisman candidate and is now a cautionary tale of Week 1 beliefs, and Arkansas v Texas A&M just simply is a dumpster fire of expectations and stupidity. Every year. The other games are [checks notes] dull. SO HERE IS YOUR WEEK 4 PREVIEW, in terms of what games we are interested in. And the odd betting tip. No.20 Florida at No.11 Tennessee (-10 1/2, O/U 62 1/2) How can
